If your students are interested in a career in auto mechanics, they have a wide variety of careers from which to choose. Some mechanics work on all parts of any car while others choose to specialize in certain types of parts or cars. There are mechanic careers in every segment of the automotive industry, including car and truck dealerships, independent garages, fleets, and service stations.
After two years of hands-on experience, mechanics are eligible to earn a number of certifications offered by The Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Certification not only gives students a sense of achievement and credibility, but it also opens up doors for career advancement and pay increase. National Guard members are eligible to receive a GI Bill reimbursement for each certification test. Visit Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL) for more information.
